"root writing"
It was from the nourishing poems of Walt Whitman (the gentleman in the hat below) that "Turning the Page" was born, a metaphor that summarizes my sense of service and mission, what has always been behind my work as a teacher, researcher, and creator of spaces for dialogue, affective relationships, and intra-interpersonal development. It also summarizes the way I look at writing: a powerful tool to help us overcome a difficult situation, finish something or move on and start a new cycle, the epitome of the expression "turning the page". Above all, the tool metaphor is mirrored in the adaptability of plants, the wisdom of patience and the power, strength and resilience of roots.
"Turning the Page" has been translated into my professional life in several ways: it has been part of my long years of work as an English language teacher, researcher, translator, reader, facilitator of reading aloud meetings, and as an editor and proofreader. More recently, it has turned into training in which "scientific writing is revisited". I decided to define this training as "root writing", one that encourages us to connect ourselves with the earth (the base, the ground), that is resilient and that provides the fundamental nourishing ingredients (feedback, active listening, self-knowledge, self-confidence, and a healthy relationship with criticism.) to re-signify scientific writing and look at it as a stimulating, inventive, fun and, of course, nourishing process.
As a basic writing training, "Turning the Page: revisiting scientific writing" opens a practical, creative and interactive space for sharing techniques, effective and useful tools for thinking, structuring and writing a scientific text in the most diverse forms, be them articles, texts for presentation at conferences, academic projects, abstracts, dissertations or theses. It is also a training that offers ways to maintain productivity, introduces the initial stages of planning to the later work of proofreading and editing texts, stimulates reflection on aspects of collaboration and how to become a trainer of micro-communities for writing practice. They are, after all, crucial elements of any professional success.
"Turning the Page" welcomes anyone who wants to embark on a journey of demystification about scientific writing and, above all, empower themselves to end their academic journey.
